about

It's no secret that Montreal is a musical hub. Many bands play, record, and tour through our island, so much so that, as Montrealers, we are often in the unique and extremely lucky position of having to choose which great bands to go see on any given night.

This city also seems to have a special place for some of the louder genres of music. As the radio station that plays the most metal and punk in this city, CJLO has managed to carve out a reputation as a bit of a hub for everything heavy. As such, we've had the distinct pleasure of having numerous bands stop by and play tunes in our recording studio, The Oven, named for how punishingly hot it becomes when filled with band members and gear under the scorching summer sun. CJLO has released several compilations that have been recorded at our station, but I am proud to present you with the first in what will hopefully be a long line of compilations dedicated to the heaviest bands to thunder our walls (and garner noise complaints from professors in nearby classrooms).

I want to thank every band that has come through our city and taken the time to stop by and play, as well as our amazing community of local bands. I also want to thank the countless publicists, tour managers, and anyone else that helped to work out the logistics of these sessions. Lastly, I want to thank every CJLO DJ and Metal Director who has played music, interviewed bands, organized sessions, and built the relationships that paved the way for this compilation to become a reality.

Throw your horns and fists in the air, and yell with me, "Long live metal. Long live punk. Long live CJLO."

- Andrew Wieler (CJLO Metal Director, Host of "Grade A Explosives")
